Security Company History Image

Edwards Security was founded as Infographic Systems Inc. in 1982 as a high-technology solution provider working on PC-based hardware and software projects around the Silicon Valley North region. Edwards Security, as the company is known today, developed its first access control product and brought it to market in 1984. INFOGARD, introduced that year, led the industry in distributed processing and menu-driven system management. Many of these systems are still in operation today.

The next leap forward was in the area of networked, multi-tasking systems, which were developed and introduced by Edwards Security in 1988. INFOGARD-PLUS, the name under which this QNX-based product was marketed, gained widespread market acceptance throughout Canada, the U.S., Europe and Australia/New Zealand.

Integrated Photobadging, Elevator (Lift) Control, Guard Tour Management, and CCTV Switching followed by 1992 at which time INFOGARD-PLUS was regarded as one of the best proprietary systems available for integrated physical security. The company was formally named ISS Integrated Security Solutions in 1996. Free to leverage this leading-edge product, Edwards Security solidified its product development around an enhanced Graphical User Interface (GUI) and more progressive security system features.

In 1998, Edwards Security launched the next generation of Integrated Security Systems based on the powerful and popular Microsoft NT Operating System. This new product, Summit eNT, positions Edwards Security to achieve major market acceptance as a full-featured integrated security system product, running on an enterprise-wide operating system.

In October 2002, ISS was acquired by SPX Corporation. SPX Corporation is a publicly traded global provider of technical products and systems, industrial products and services, flow technology and service solutions. Edwards Canada, its operating division, spearheaded the acquisition and ISS now known as Edwards Security joins its organization to bring integrated building systems products and services to the Canadian and international marketplace.

Today, Edwards Security delivers leading-edge solutions from its branch offices in Canada and through its partners in the U.S., the U.K., East Asia, Europe, South American and Russia.
